On September 9th, Vanguard celebrated its 60th anniversary with a special event at the Natural History Museum in London. Held beneath the iconic 25-metre blue whale skeleton, "Hope," suspended in Hintze Hall, the evening brought together 175 guests, including employees, suppliers, tenants, and friends, to reflect on six decades of success.
A heartfelt speech was delivered by Will McCullagh, son of the late co-founder Mac McCullagh, focusing on the values that have shaped Vanguard’s journey—legacy, growth, and gratitude. Will shared personal stories about his father, including how Mac met his wife outside the Science Museum while on a job, adding a light-hearted and touching moment to the evening.
Tributes were paid to the company’s co-founders, Eddie McCormack and Ian Sandeberg, as well as to the many individuals who have contributed to Vanguard’s success. The company’s recent expansions were also highlighted, including the opening of new self-storage facilities in Bristol, Victoria, and Staples Corner, with future locations planned in Bath and Portsmouth.
The evening wasn’t just about growth, but also about appreciation because Vanguard’s success is due to the dedication and support of its employees, suppliers, and customers. As the audience was reminded, Vanguard is more than just a company—it’s a community and a credit to the hard work and commitment of everyone who has been part of this journey.
After dinner, guests enjoyed live music from the band Apollo Music, bringing a festive conclusion to the night. The event ended with a toast to Mac McCullagh and to Vanguard’s continued success—a company built on strong relationships and an enduring commitment to excellence.
Here’s to 60 more years of Vanguard!
